Membership FAQ
The 88th NY Co. B is always looking for a few good members! Our membership is comprised of people from all walks of life and backgrounds. While our base is in the Charlotte, NC, area, our membership comes from all over North Carolina and beyond. We welcome all people, regarless of race, creed, color, or gender.   • Question: Does the 88th NY Co. B portray Confederate and Federal?
    Answer: No – The 88th portray’s only a Federal impression. We are one of the only “Federal Only” units in the Carolinas.
  • Question: Do I have to pay dues to be part of the 88th NY Co. B?
    Answer: Yes – Dues are mandatory for ALL members (regardless of impression). The dues are $10.00 for a single member and $15.00 for a family (2 adults + children under the age of 18). Dues are payable by the first meeting of the year (January) via check or cash.
  • Question: What do my dues entitle me to?
    Answer: Your dues entitle you to access to our group liability insurance policy. Also, they are used to help pay for company equipment / rations / etc… which are used by all members in the unit. Your dues also entitle you to the Meagher Monthly, the newsletter of the 88th NY Co.B, produced every 2 months.
  • Question: Is the 88th NY Co. B a family oriented unit?
    Answer: Yes, the 88th NY Co. B is a family orientated unit. We encourage families who join to create a period camp impression
  • Question: How many events does the 88th NY Co. B go to?
    Answer: We try to go to 1 event per month, within a 3 hour drive from Charlotte. This won’t always be the case, though, we national events are attended by the unit. If we don’t have any events scheduled for the month, then we try to get together for a dinner or drill.
  • Question: What if I don’t have any equipment, but want to try out Civil War Reenacting?
    Answer: That’s no problem at all! We all started out that way! The 88th has limited equipment that can be loaned out to a prospective member. The equipment is due back to the unit after the days event, and will be loaned out again for each day the event is held. In no case, though, will that equipment return home with the person borrowing it.
  • Question: How can I find out more about the 88th NY Co. B?

  • Question: Does the 88th NY have regular meetings?
    Answer: The 88th NY doesn’t have regular standing meetings. We meet once a year to discuss unit business, elect new officers, and determine our yearly schedule. We do, though, have meetings throughout the year as necessary, generally at events. Most of the yearly unit business is done via email.
  • Question: How is the 88th NY Co. B governed?
    Answer: The 88th is governed by a Board of Directors at the organization level, and has a set military structure, effective at all events. Decisions are made by a 2/3 voting majority. Click here to view our constitution
